Benefits:
The Collaboration’s membership year runs from July 1 through June 30. The following member benefits become available to your institution and each of your faculty, staff, and students when the membership fee is paid in full:

• comprehensive package of programs for faculty and staff

• support for your accreditation efforts

• increased visibility for your institution

• discounts of 20-50% on all Collaboration program fees and products

• additional group discounts for conferences

• free network events for faculty developers

• free conference registrations for undergraduate student presenters

• eligibility for members-only programs, including our Bellman Leadership Award and Institute for Academic Innovation

• free consulting on educational development and grant planning

• help establishing collaborative inter-institutional projects

• leadership development opportunities

• a 30% discount on regular subscription rates to Change and College Teaching

• a 20% discount on Stylus Publishing titles when ordering two or more copies

Benefits listed are available to all member categories. However, discounts may vary by category, and some programs may be limited to the five-state region.

Eligibility:
Membership is open to non-profit institutions, including accredited public and private colleges and universities, their system offices, and other educational organizations.

 Membership categories are: 

REGIONAL MEMBERS: Colleges and universities in Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

Fees are assessed according to each institution's 2006 Basic Carnegie Classification, but may be adjusted for institutions that regularly share a single faculty development coordinator or have multiple campuses or liaisons. For classifications, see www.carnegiefoundation.org.

AFFILIATE MEMBERS: Colleges and universities outside The Collaboration's five-state region.

ASSOCIATE MEMBERS: System offices and other nonprofit organizations. Benefits apply to system office staff only.

Institutions serving predominantly underrepresented populations (HBCUs, Tribal Colleges, Hispanic-Serving Institutions, etc.) are eligible for discounted fees as shown.

Colleges and universities must be accredited by the appropriate regional accrediting association. The Collaboration does not offer memberships for individuals.

Terms of Membership:

Campuses, system offices, and other eligible organizations wishing to become Collaboration members must agree to: 

• Support the mission of The Collaboration.

• Designate a Faculty Development Coordinator who will actively encourage use of member benefits and help The Collaboration provide effective and timely service to the member institution throughout the year. Duties will include distributing program publicity in a timely way to all interested individuals, promoting faculty and staff participation in Collaboration programs, and coordinating registrations for Collaboration programs.

• Provide input into needs assessments, evaluations, and other efforts designed to strengthen The Collaboration's programs and services.

• Abide by the policies and operating procedures of The Collaboration.

• Pay the annual membership fee in full.

Membership Categories and Fees:

Regional Memberships

Regional Memberships are available to colleges and universities in Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin and provide full member benefits, including the largest discounts. Fees are assessed according to each institution's 2006 Basic Carnegie Classification  or more recent data supporting reclassification within Carnegie guidelines (see www.carnegiefoundation.org). With the exceptions listed below, fees for 2008-09 are listed in the following table.

 Exceptions

The following exceptions to the Regional Membership fee schedule are intended to ensure efficient and effective delivery of Collaboration services, while having member institutions share in The Collaboration's administrative savings or increased costs.

1) Two institutions with one Faculty Development Coordinator 

Two or more separately accredited but affiliated institutions that regularly share a single campus Faculty Development Coordinator to manage a Center for Teaching and Learning or comparable program may designate that person as The Collaboration's faculty development liaison for a 25% discount off their combined institutional fees.

2) Multi-campus institutions

a)       Institutions that have two campuses, each with its own administration will be assessed a membership fee as follows:

·          If all coordination between The Collaboration and the institution is handled through a single Faculty Development Coordinator and mailing address, the institution will pay the regular rate for its classification.

·          If The Collaboration is asked to coordinate with each campus separately, the institution will pay one and one-half times the regular rate for its classification.

b) Institutions with three or more campuses, each with its own administration, will be assessed two times the regular institutional fee, regardless of the number of campuses.

Affiliate Memberships 

Affiliate Memberships are available to accredited colleges and universities outside The Collaboration’s five-state region (Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin). Institutions serving predominantly underrepresented populations (HBCUs, Tribal Colleges, Hispanic-Serving Institutions, etc.) are eligible for discounted membership fees as shown below. Benefits may exclude selected services that are limited for practical or budgetary reasons to the five-state region.

Associate Memberships are available to higher education system offices and other nonprofit educational organizations. Benefits apply only to faculty and staff employed at the system office or organizational headquarters, not to those on individual campuses within a system.

To join

To join The Collaboration, please complete the Membership Application Form; include the signature of the president, chancellor, or chief academic officer; and fax or mail it to The Collaboration. If you fax the form, please also mail the original to the address below, keeping a copy for your records.

Institutions may join The Collaboration at any time during the year, but will begin to receive benefits once the membership fee is paid in full. To receive a full year of benefits, we encourage you to complete, sign, and submit your  2008-09 Membership Application by May 15, 2008. The Collaboration will bill you in late May, with payment due July 1. Institutions whose fiscal year begins after July may call The Collaboration to request an extension of the payment date.
